Grasse

The Provence town of Grasse, near Nice, is renowned as the major perfume-producing region of France. Tourists can visit the factories and witness the many fragrances being produced, or they can take in the International Museum of Perfume charting the history and heritage of the perfume-making industry in Grasse and beyond.

In fact, there are many museums of interest in Grasse, including Museum of Art and History of Provence, Amiral de Grasse Museum, Marine Museum and Museum Villa Fragonard.

But Grasse is full of history and walking its streets of the old town and enjoying the wonderful architecture of this unique Provence town is a pleasure in itself. Visit the quaint old squares of Place aux Aires, Place aux Herbes and Place du Petit.

There are also outdoor markets for buying fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers, and while shopping there are of course many salons in which to purchase those famous fragrances.

As you would expect there are plenty of cafes and restaurants in which to sample the wonderful, inimitable cuisine and wines of Provence, served with the friendly, easy going attitude associated with this part of the world.

For a more rural experience, visit the nearby villages of Cabris, Chateauneuf de Grasse, Peymeinade and Opio.
